Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia – More than 25,000 soldiers and sailors of the U. S. lie buried here, including many famous officers. The first burial here was that of 12 soldiers on May 14, 1864, and was witnessed by President Lincoln. In 1910 the body of L’Enfant was transferred here from the Digges place at Green Hill, Maryland. On May 15, 1920, the Memorial Amphitheater was dedicated. Here were held the exercises over the body of the Unknown Dead on Nov. 11, 1921.
